Quote of the day: "102.1 Harmison to Ponting, no run, wide and Ponting has to stretch to reach it. "Harmison couldn't hit an elephant from 20 paces?" was Jeff Thomson's assessment earlier. Guess it depends on the size of the elephant." - baggygreen.com

How does one chase "The Chaser's War on Everything"

It's a slow news day, so mediated.com.au is taking a break from its usual mischief to analyse the DVD release of the best in the industry, 'The Chaser's War on Everything.'

My wife knows that I'm a huge Chaser fan, I've read their magazine since 2001, watched their TV series and was distraught when their stage show 'Cirque du Chaser' was on during my politics exams. So I was a very happy camper when she unveiled this DVD for my birthday earlier this month.

The Chaser boys don't dissapoint.
Life without the chaser

In many respects it's a shame that the Chaser's popularity has remained rooted strongly on Australian soil, bar one Charles Firth attempting to sell his 2004 election vote on Ebay. Because these guys are funny.

The 'War' is the Chaser's fourth venture into television and I believe they're getting better each time. Now their trademark satire and 'cheeky boys' humour has expanded into regular skits and brilliant one offs.

Personally the 'British Comedy Sketch', where Hanson proceeds to unrelentlessly vilify Chris Taylor in the idiom of John Cleese is only rivalled by the comedic song, "I wish I was a Scottish standup comedian". Equally Chase Liccadello's constant ability to get in trouble with the law for his stunts shows just how courageous these boys are.

It might be problematic reccomending these guys because if anyone bothers to find a backissue of the newspaper they'll soon realise where I got my formulae, but they do say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

So get out to the ABC shop, buy the DVD and double the ABC's expected profit margin.

I was given this for my birthday recently also, hubby knowing how much I love The Chaser.

What I didn't realise though is that there is a second one out also, so I was wondering how far behind the times I was - I finally get my hands on one, to find out that I'm, still behind most other people.

My biggest problem at the moment is actually having the time to watch it, this end of the year and all, but I'm positive it will be good viewing, and hopefully I can cadge someone into buying volume 2 for me for Christmas!

Yeah volume 2 isn't behind the times at all.

It's just that they've broken the one season into two DVD's.

I had a similar panic because I was sure the show hadn't been going for 2 years.

On the bright side, with the Chaser continually doing good things we'll always have a birthday prezzie to look forward to

Ahhhh....OK, I had been wondering. Thanks for that info.

Yes, It's a bit like when 'Lord of The Rings' came out on DVD - I was given one for my birthday each year for 3 years running.

There's definitley an upside to having a birthday towards the end of the year - more stuff is available on DVD for Christmas, and we're just lucky enough to have an excuse to get a hold of it earlier. ; )

I'm beginning to wonder if you stole my birthday present list.

Exact same deal for me, my birthday present from my folks each year was the Extended LOTR, then for Christmas it was the Chaser Annual

This year I was dissapointed that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 came out after my b'day.

But the Chaser is definitely a good consolation prize.

Anyways, happy birthday for some time recently!

Dammit, you've seen straight through my cunning plan.

Cheers

LOL
Got an unrelated question for you - I've been trying to find it on my own, but I'm not having much luck. I figure - you've done it. so you'll know, and it certainly won't hurt your voting score. Anything to promote The Chaser. ; )

How did you get your blog centred on the page? It seems to be the one thing I can't find, and looking at Advanced Settings for too long makes my eyes water.

Um... I played around with the formatting options when I first set up.

I think it was actually with the ad layout that changing the ad design changed the design of the site.

If you still can't do it give me a PM and I'll go through my settings and see what's different with you.

I adore the Chaser, and I agree that this television show is probably the best they've produced so far. I have to say, the boys are very brave, particularly Chas. I don't have any of the DVDs yet, maybe I'll be lucky for Christmas or my Birthday.

If only there were more of this sort of thing on television. Instead, we have to put up with Dancing with the Stars, big brother, and an endless stream of boring cooking programmes. If there was any logic in television dancing would have been axed long ago, and (preferably) replaced with something like this.
